Prof. John McBeth

John was awarded his PhD in clinical epidemiology by the University of Manchester in 2000. For his PhD he conducted one of the first prospective cohort studies to predict the onset and persistence of chronic pain. He currently holds Chairs in Health Data Science at the University of Southampton and Epidemiology at the University of Manchester. His research applies robust epidemiological methods to integrate and interrogate electronic health records and person-generated data, to track the occurrence and progression of disease and identify causal mechanisms, to remotely monitor and assess patients, and to deliver digitised interventions. His research has focused on inflammatory and non-inflammatory musculoskeletal diseases with a specific focus on chronic pain. He has published 180 peer-reviewed original articles and contributed chapters to numerous textbooks on epidemiology, rheumatology, and pain.
